Ed Sawyer, BSEE, MBA
President and CEO
In 2002, Mr. Ed Sawyer purchased SBE Inc. and led the transformation of the company into the next sustainable era by first developing protectable technology and then building the capacity to manufacture it profitably. Since joining the company, Mr. Sawyer has successfully raised $5 Million in capital to support the growth of SBE and, in August of 2009, was able to secure a $9.1 Million US Department of Energy grant to bring high volume manufacturing capability to the company at its Barre, Vermont headquarters facility. From 1999 to 2001, Mr. Sawyer worked at Banta Corporation as a VP of North American Operations, with responsibility for over 1500 employees covering 4 locations in the U.S. and Mexico, and prior to that as a Project Leader, for the green field start‐up of a Business Server Hard Drive Configuration and Final Assembly plant for Compaq Computer, where he took the business from only 25 people to over 700, occupying 500,000 square feet and producing $75 Million in revenue, over a period of 24 months. Previously, he was Business Unit General Manager for Emerson Electric Company (1995-1999) where he was responsible for the worldwide sensors and thermistors business and the establishment of new production facilities in China and Mexico. Mr. Sawyer has a Bachelor in Electrical Engineering from Tufts University and an MBA from Colorado State University.

Tom McBride, BSME, MBA
Executive Vice-President

Tom McBride started with SBE in April of 2010, responsible for management of SBE’s Department of Energy transportation grant program as well as consolidation of SBE’s two production facilities. In the 10 years prior to joining SBE Tom served as a lean manufacturing consultant and worked with a number of manufacturing and service organizations in a wide variety of industries with a focus on operational effectiveness and efficiency. Prior to consulting, he served for over 25 years in engineering and operational management roles with equipment manufacturers such as Lawrence Pumps, Bendix Corporation, and Babcock and Wilcox. Tom holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Missouri University of Science and Technology (formerly University of Missouri-Rolla) and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Akron. He is certified as a lean practitioner by the SME, AME, ASQ, and Shingo Prize certification bodyand is a certified Six Sigma Black Belt. Tom is also a Registered Professional Engineer and holds three U.S. patents.

Bob Britt, BSA, MBA, CPA
Chief Financial Officer
Mr. Bob Britt joined SBE Inc. in February 2010. Prior to joining SBE, Mr. Britt worked as an independent financial & management consultant for 7 years assisting growing, entrepreneurial businesses in developing their business plans, obtaining growth capital, and improving management reporting and profitability. Mr. Britt previously worked for Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Inc. in Waterbury, Vermont for 10 years where he served as Chief Financial Officer and was on the Board of Directors. While at Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Mr. Britt managed their initial public offering and helped grow the Company from $14 million to $100 million in sales.
Mr. Britt holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Connecticut and earned his MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. Mr. Britt is also a Certified Public Accountant. Mr. Britt serves on the Boards of the Vermont Economic Development Authority and Vermont Smoke and Cure, Inc. He also serves on the Advisory Board of the Vermont Seed Capital Fund.

Michael Brubaker, PhD, MSEE, BSEE
Chief Technology Officer
Mr. Michael Brubaker joined SBE Inc. in July of 2010.  He is responsible for the oversight of SBE’s research and development activities.  Most recently, Mr. Brubaker was the Vice President of Engineering and a founding member of Fieldmetrics Inc.  He was responsible for the high voltage design and testing of next generation voltage and current sensors for smart grid applications.  Mr. Brubaker developed the firmware for a proprietary metering module and interfaced with third party vendors to create unique monitoring solutions for utility customers.  Mr. Brubaker holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder and earned his Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Electric Power Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.  Mr. Brubaker also has over 20 technical publications, nine US patents and two European patents.

Mike Olsen
Vice President, Sales

Mr. Olsen joined SBE in November of 2011. Prior to joining SBE, he was Vice President of Business Development with Skypoint Solar, Inc., a start-up solar equipment manufacturer where he was successful in establishing relationships with potential partners, obtaining incentives from state and federal agencies and developing marketing and sales strategies. Prior to Skypoint, Mr. Olsen was a Business Development Executive with IBM where he led IBM’s worldwide efforts to license chip and system cooling and thin-film solar technology. Mr. Olsen joined IBM after being Corporate Counsel for the Bruegger’s Corporation. Mr. Olsen has a BA from the University of Notre Dame and a Juris Doctorate from Vermont Law School.

Mark Browning, BSME
Vice-President, Customer/New Product Development
Mr. Mark Browning joined the staff at SBE in 1989 as manager of technical sales and account development. Throughout his career at SBE he has been involved in many aspects of business development; including sales and customer service management, design engineering, technical data sheet development, key marketing activities, and new product launches which included the launch of the Power Ring product along with Terry Hosking in 2005.  Mr. Browning’s experience from both a technical nature and customer relationship perspective provide for a strong interface between engineering, production and the customer.  In today’s role Mr. Browning oversees the various aspects of the new product design cycle and customer fulfillment process, bringing the product and customer together.  Prior to SBE, he spent 5 years in the HVAC industry in technical sales and customer service. Mr. Browning holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from University of Maine.

Terry Hosking, BSEE, MSEE
Senior Research & Development Engineer

Mr. Terry Hosking joined SBE Inc. in 1994. He has developed industry leading technologies in Film Capacitors. He has extensive knowledge in the manufacturing process and in material selection and design. Mr. Hosking is the senior technical interface with customers for application and design support. He is the inventor of record for several patents on SBE capacitor technologies, and has written and presented many publications and papers in the field. Prior to SBE, Mr. Hosking worked as a Senior Engineer at Digital Equipment Corp. in the Power Supply Design and Manufacturing Engineering departments. Mr. Hosking holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Clarkson College and a Master in Electrical Engineering from the University of Vermont.
