Technology Overview ( E²P² Technology )
SBE's patent pending Power Ring technology is designed to free your application of the traditional, cumbersome capacitor bus structure or box/rectangular shaped capacitor assemblies. For Electric Motor Drive applications, the system "load" is circular. Now you can design the electronics for the inverter and control system to be circular as well.
Circular components situated around the drive shaft are the most efficient use of space for an electric motor application. Additionally, the "coaxial" nature of the current flow, which occurs when situated this way, increases efficiency of the system and minimizes EMI (Electro Magnetic Interference) through the circular and counter flowing current paths. SBE has developed a manufacturing process, which maximizes the long-term reliability of the Power Ring in ripple current environments of 100s of Amps. Use of our patent-pending, pulse-improvement film design will further increase the system reliability in any pulse application.
Compare the Power Ring’s performance of Ripple Current vs. Capacitance against other dielectrics. Note the window area indicating acceptable ratio between ripple current and capacitance, and how the Power Ring improves upon that.
As you start to conceive of new designs using the SBE Power Ring, you will start to realize the benefit of extremely low ESL that results from the shape and orientation of the components (10 - 30 nH typical). Such low levels of ESL/ESR may allow you to reduce the total amount of capacitance you actually need in your system. This could further enhance the possible space savings.
