UQM Technologies selected the SBE Inc. Power Ring Film Capacitor™ for its PowerPhase Pro® electric propulsion system

SBE Inc. (dba SB Electronics), announces today that UQM Technologies, Inc. (NYSE Amex: UQM) has selected the Power Ring Film Capacitor for its PowerPhase Pro® electric propulsion system. SBE Inc. has been working since 2007 with the design team at UQM to develop a capacitor solution for its PowerPhase Pro® electric propulsion system.

UQM’s PowerPhase Pro® electric propulsion system delivers 100 kilowatts (134 horsepower) of peak power, 300 newton meters (221 pound feet) of peak torque and a peak system efficiency of 94%, all in a small 280 millimeter (11 inch) diameter by 252 millimeter (10 inch) long package. UQM recently began volume production of this system for the CODA Automotive’s all-electric sedan.

The Power Ring Film Capacitor is a DC Link Filter Capacitor for Inverter applications in powertrain and alternative energy systems. The SBE technology offers the coolest running product under the strenuous demands of these systems allowing for a much higher degree of reliability, higher power density, and simpler cooling infrastructure. SBE is already producing the product for early stage advanced systems and is ramping up capacity. As an awardee of US Department of Energy “Recovery Act – Electric Drive Vehicle Battery and Component Manufacturing Initiative”, SBE has also built a state of the art capacitor manufacturing facility to expand our capacity to support the industry needs.
